dockMr. Dock Edward Killen, 91, of Florence, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014 at his residence after an extended illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Lauderdale County, a member of North Wood United Methodist Church, Knights of Pythias, Goodwill Club, and of the UNA Sports Club. He was retired from South Central Bell, and was a World War II veteran.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 11 – 1 p.m. at North Wood United Methodist Church with the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Steve Reding and Rev. Ralph Mann. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

Mr. Killen was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley Fulton and Mattie Dee Killen, wife Edna Porter Killen, son Danny Killen, brothers Robert Bruce Killen, W.F. “Dub” Killen, sisters Flora Mabe and Reba Deimling.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth King Killen of Florence; son, Freddy Killen and wife Jo of Scottsboro; brother, Morris Killen and wife Tonita of Killen; daughter-in-law, Patsy Killen of Florence. granddaughter Tara (Anthony) Garoute, grandsons Jonathan (Amy) Killen and Ben Killen, great-granddaughters Iliana & Hensley Garoute; great-grandsons Eli & David Killen; step-daughter, Kathy King Whitfield (Ed) of Birmingham, step-son, Robert Allen King (Christie) of Leighton, four step-grandchildren, and eleven step-great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be Freddy Killen, Jonathan Killen, Ben Killen, Anthony Garoute, Vance Persall, Bruce Mock, Robbie Killen, and Don Killen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Yeilding, Almon Truitt, Walter Ingle, Cliff Miles, Lynn Staggs, Gene Pickard, Dr. Nolan Richards, and Sam Brown.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and caregivers: Sheryl Ingle, Alice Carter, Faye Ginn, Amanda Dawson, Shana Hill, and Shirley Butler. And special others, Connie Isbell and William Huggins.

Memorials may be made to North Wood United Methodist Church, or to a favorite charity.
