Dixon Rinehart McGlohon, known to friends and family as Lukas, a commercial fisherman in Gloucester, passed away suddenly on August 14th. Lukas was born in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1991, the son of Blu Smith and Joseph McGlohon. He was raised in Alabama and after graduating high school he attended Calhoun Community College. He then moved to Gloucester, Massachusetts, to pursue a career in the fishing industry. Lukas had been working on tuna boats, lobster boats, and most recently for a bluefin tuna broker, retrieving tuna from the boat captains and delivering them to the purchaser. He could be seen on the popular show, “Wicked Tuna” when the captains landed their fish and were looking for the value of their fish.

Lukas always loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time fishing, both commercially and recreationally. He also had just received his Merchant Mariner Credentials to become a licensed boat captain. He had a great love of computers, and would build his own from components. He loved music and was skilled at playing guitar. Most of all, he was a people person, easily making friends, willing to help others, and in turn people were always there to help him. He was also a faithful and proud member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Rockport.

Lukas leaves behind his parents, Blu Smith of Alabama and Joseph McGlohon of North Carolina; his sisters, India Truman of Alabama and Meredith McGlohon-Fovat of Virginia, as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Lukas will be held on Tuesday August 21st at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 24 Broadway, Rockport, Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider making a donation in Lukas’s memory to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, PO Box 299, Rockport, MA 019666
