Dr. Dieter L. Teuber, 92, died peacefully at home, Thursday, June 11, 2020. He was a native of Germany. After surviving WWII as a child and young teen, he earned his engineering degree at the University of Darmstadt. Dieter was subsequently recruited by the US Army Missile Command in 1953 and later joined NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center at its founding. He fondly recalled arriving in Huntsville as a 25 year old to a town of “2 restaurants and 18,000 people”. While initially envisioning an eventual return to their native Germany, Dieter and Susanne raised a family of 5 children and built many close friendships as Huntsville became home. Dieter was predeceased by his eldest son, Chris, in 2011, and his beloved wife of 61 years, Susanne, in 2017. Survivors include children: Hans (Heidi), Marianne (Pete), Andy (Cheryl), Tom (Nancy), 8 grandchildren, soon to be 11 great grandchildren, and brother Achim (Merry) in Germany. Funeral Mass will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 625 Airport Rd., on Saturday, June 27, at 10:00am, with Father Michael MacMahon officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery. Immediately following burial, family and friends are invited to a lunch reception at Holy Spirit Catholic Church Family Center. If possible, please bring photographs and written stories of your memories with Dieter to the reception to be composed into a memorial.
