Dewey Monroe Vandiver, Jr., was born January 10, 1942, and went home to his heavenly father on April 24, 2024. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 28, from 2 until 3:30 p.m. at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. The memorial service will immediately follow.
Dewey was a native of Ford City, AL, and graduated from Colbert County High School. He went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force and later worked as a longtime employee at the Paper Mill in Courtland, AL.
Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Dewey M. Vandiver, Sr; brothers, James Vandiver, Everett Vandiver, and Howard Vandiver; and sister, Helen Walker.
He is survived by his son, Bradley Vandiver; daughter, Kimberly Sizemore; and grandson, Braylen Tuff Sizemore.
Dewey had a passion for music and was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in March of 2022 for the production of the album, “Ashes to Ashes” with the vocal talents of his longtime friend and brother, Charles Smith through Soul Brother Records. This was an accomplishment he was most proud of.

The family expresses special thanks to his longtime friend, Sue Gibson McDowell, and friends, Greg Lawson and Apriell Burgess for helping so much in the past few months and always being there. Also, a special thanks to his sitters, Rebecca “Becky” Borden and LaTrisha “Sissy” Todd and Brad, Kim’s mother, Rhonda K. Breland, and Braylen Tuff Sizemore’s father, Shaun Sizemore.
