Derriel Burney, 81, passed from this life at his home on July 16, 2015. His funeral will be today at Jackson Memory Funeral Home in Town Creek at noon with Brother Jackie Kay and Brother Charlie James officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon just prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Derriel was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Cora Burney, and one brother, Murphey Burney.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, June C. Burney; two sons, Michael (Karen) Burney, of Cottage Grove, Oregon, and Chris Burney, of Town Creek; two grandsons, Shane (Tina) Burney and Micah Burner, of Muscle Shoals; one great-grandson, Jerimicha Burney; and two brothers, Arylon, of Town Creek, and Eldon (Mavis), of Muscle Shoals.
He was a member of Washington Park Baptist Church. He was a mason for 50 years with a 32nd degree. He retired from Ford Motor Company.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Burney, Steven Burner, Vincent Burner, J.D. Story, Larry Tiser, and Waynon Bain. Honorary pallbearers are James Wood, James Chaney, Brennon Sprinkle, and Roy Loosier.
