It is with great sadness the family of Denise Bevel Powers announces her passing, after a brief bout with cancer, on Monday, April 19, 2021, at the age of 64 years.
Denise dedicated her life to being a wonderful mother and grandmother and embraced both roles with a passion. She loved to cook, although she rarely followed the recipe, for her family and friends; even her children’s friends and co-workers were not exempt from her sweet concoctions. As a member of Hampton Cove Church of Christ for the past 30 years, she made it her mission to be a positive light in the life of others.
For the past six years, Denise organized the annual Parade of Readers for Owens Cross Elementary School. Her warmth and sunny disposition enriched the lives of many small children as she promoted the love of reading. She will be missed.
Denise is survived by her husband of 41 years, James Powers, daughter, Deanna Spencer and husband Chad; son, Blake Powers and wife, Lydia; mother, Mary Sue Bevel; three sisters, Carol Hedden, Pam Stewart and Beverly Reed.; one grandson; Tucker Powers, and eight nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, James L. Bevel.
Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 5-8 PM at the New Hope Funeral Home, 2500 Oak Grove Road, New Hope, Alabama.
A celebration of Denise’s life will be held at Owens Cross Roads Church of Christ, 124 Eastwood Drive, Owens Cross Roads, Al, on Thursday, April 22,2021 at 3 PM. Interment will be at Hayden Cemetery, Hayden Cemetery Road in New Hope, Alabama.
Active pallbearers are Dean Hedden, Robbie Joe Lanza, Gabe Gentle, Parker Jones, Jeff Brooks and Josh Hillis.
