Dena Faye Crow Eskridge moved to Courtland, AL, with her parents at the age of 4, but it seems like she was here forever. She loved her town and gave so much of herself to it. She started working in her brother Fred Crow’s store as a teenager. She graduated from Hazelwood High School
in 1952 and later married Raymond Eskridge. They had two sons, Britt and David. She was preceded in death by Raymond and Britt.
Everyone in Courtland—townspeople and visitors alike—knew “Ms. Dena Faye.” She was outgoing and caring and just full of life. From her 33 years working at Hughes Drug store until the time she passed, she had a knack for remembering her customers’ and friends’ interests and hobbies, giving gifts and making conversations that were always personal and special. She cared for everyone, but Dena Faye truly loved all children. She was well known for her work at the town library (especially summer reading programs) and as a substitute teacher in the school system. She was a member of the Courtland Church of Christ and taught children’s Sunday School for many years. At 91, Dena Faye had so many stories and memories of the townspeople of Courtland. She was such a big part of our little town and leaves us lots of memories to hold onto and share.
Dena is preceded in death by her parents: Traivs Crow & Chellie Johnson Crow, 1 son: Travis Britt Eskridge, half-sisters: Ava & Alice Crow, half-brothers: Sherman Crow, Irwin Crow, Fred Crow, Willis Crow, & Travis Crow.
Mrs. Eskridge is survived by her son, David Ray Eskridge of Courtland, AL, grandson, Christopher David Eskridge of Moulton, AL, great-grand-daughter, Amy Grace Eskridge of Moulton, AL. She is also survived by her dear friends whom she called her daughters: Mylinda Cline, Sheila Porter, Jannet Mears, and Amanda Poarch.
