Deloris McDaniel – Obituary

delorisMrs. Deloris McDaniel, 74, of Florence, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Mitchell-Hollingsworth CareCenter, Florence.

 

The family will receive friends at St. James United Methodist Church on Thursday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. The service to celebrate her life will follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Canterbury officiating. Burial will be in Tri-Cities MemorialGardens.

 

Born Dora Deloris Rowell on December 18, 1939 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, she was preceded in death in 2010 by her husband Eldon Shelton McDaniel, her parents Otis Charles Rowell and Mary Ethel Rowell, and her brother Douglas Rowell.

 

Survivors include two sons: Mike McDaniel and wife Bonnie of Florence and Tommy McDaniel and wife Paula of Sheffield; grandchildren Shelley McDaniel of Florence, Michael Marshall and wife Whitney, and Cassie McDaniel all of Sheffield, Clinton Norwood of Florence, Kayla L. McDaniel Thomas and husband Ken of Jasper, Chaillie C. Watkins III and Woodard F. Watkins of Florence; great-grandsons Sam and Cash Marshall of Sheffield, great-grandson Hunter Dean and great-granddaughter Gabby Dean of Sheffield, and great-grandson Brantley Thomas of Jasper; brother Otis Rowell of Hattiesburg, MS, sister Jeanie Rowell of Houston, TX.

 

Deloris loved the Shoals where she resided since 1962. She excelled as a wonderful Realtor winning numerous state and national awards. She had been an active member of the Petersville Church of Christ.

 

Pallbearers will be Gary Kelley, Mike Randall, Quint Langstaff, Larry Green, Charlie Fowler and Robert Strickland. Honorary bearers will be Leroy Darby and Tim Rippey.

 

The family extends their special thanks to Dr. William Hobbs, the caring staff at Mitchell-Hollingsworth, and Mrs. McDaniel’s primary caregiver Carolyn Atkisson who stated, “I worked for four years with the most wonderful woman in the world….Deloris!” Also thanks to caregivers Ray Daniel and Alice Roden.
