DECATUR-Decatur is proud to continue their partnership with the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) as the host city for the SSAC Softball Championship tournament. The prestigious event is scheduled to take place at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex from May 2nd to May 4th, 2024. Decatur Morgan County Tourism and the City of Decatur’s Parks and Recreation Department are set to welcome nearly 200 student-athletes and coaches, accompanied by their families, from various esteemed institutions within the conference.
This year, the tournament features highly competitive teams vying for the championship title. The athletes who will be competing this year are from University of Mobile, Middle Georgia State, William Carey University, Stillman College, Faulkner University, Brewton-Parker, UT Southern, Blue Mountain Christian, Point University and Thomas University.
The championship game, anticipated to be a thrilling culmination of skill and determination, is scheduled for 12 p.m. CST on Saturday, May 4th. Tickets are available exclusively online at ssacsports.com/tickets, with on-site assistance provided for those needing help with the process.
Admission prices are $12 for adults, $6 for SSAC students with ID, $6 for children ages 11-17, and free for children under 10 years old. Youth athletes aged 12 and under wearing their team jerseys gain free entry, while those aged 13 to 18 can enter for free when accompanied by their team and coach. Tournament passes are available for $30 per person, and parking is complimentary.
Since 2016, Decatur has been a proud host of the SSAC Softball Championship, showcasing its commitment to excellence in sports tourism. The partnership between SSAC, the City of Decatur Parks and Recreation Department, and Decatur Morgan County Tourism has been extended through the 2025 season.
SSAC Commissioner Mike Hall expressed his anticipation for this year’s event, praising Decatur’s efforts in creating a top-tier experience for all participants and spectators.
The Wilson Morgan Softball Complex, boasting six lighted fields, centrally located concessions, a press box, and batting cages, provides an ideal setting for the championship. With each field featuring a meticulously maintained clay infield and lush grass, the facility can accommodate over 2,000 spectators, with additional seating available.
