DECATUR-The Decatur Police Department is asking for the help of the public in locating two missing teens who may be in danger:  The Decatur Police released a statement regarding the search for the girls:

“The Decatur Police Department is asking for assistance locating the above listed juvenile females. The two females went missing in Decatur, AL on July 22nd 2016.

At the time they went missing neither girl was in possession of a cell phone or enough money to buy food. We believe they may still be together somewhere in Decatur, Athens, or Huntsville, AL. Due to their age and lack of resources we believe them to be in danger.

We are asking that anyone with any information about the whereabouts of these girls please contact Det. Birchfield of the Decatur Police Department (256) 341-4819. If a call is made to Det. Birchfield after hours please leave a message and he will contact you as soon as possible.

The Decatur Police Department wants to inform anyone who may be assisting these two girls in their attempted runaway that Interference with Child Custody is a Class C Felony.

Section 13A-6-45
Interference with custody.
(a) A person commits the crime of interference with custody if he knowingly takes or entices:
(1) Any child under the age of 18 from the lawful custody of its parent, guardian or other lawful custodian, or
(2) Any committed person from the lawful custody of its parent, guardian or other lawful custodian. “Committed person” means, in addition to anyone committed under judicial warrant, any neglected, dependent or delinquent child, mentally defective or insane person or any other incompetent person entrusted to another’s custody by authority of law.
(b) A person does not commit a crime under this section if the actor’s sole purpose is to assume lawful control of the child.
The burden of injecting the issue is on the defendant, but this does not shift the burden of proof.
(c) Interference with custody is a Class C felony.”
