Deborah Gayle Moore Hornbuckle (“Debbie”), 70, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on November 4, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born in Louisville, KY on November 24, 1952, to William Lewis Haynes Moore and Dorothy Jane Campbell Moore.

Debbie grew up in Huntsville, AL where she graduated from Huntsville High School in 1970. After graduating, Debbie went on to study Psychology at Auburn University. She moved to Birmingham where she worked for the Social Security Administration after college. Debbie then decided to pursue a degree in Engineering from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. During her schooling, Debbie interned at Rust Engineering where she met her husband, Ron Hornbuckle. They were married on January 31, 1981. After obtaining her Engineering degree, she worked for BellSouth where she co-authored an IEEE publication. Ron and Debbie welcomed their first daughter Rebecca Grace Hornbuckle in 1986 and a second daughter Lauren Elizabeth Hornbuckle in 1991. After Lauren was born, Debbie stayed home to care for her children. Debbie went to work for BE&K after the girls were in school where she served as an outside plant engineer. Debbie retired from Williams Environmental in 2008.

Debbie was a lover of flowers and plants and even studied Horticulture at Jefferson State Community College. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Italy. Debbie visited multiple times including with her daughter, Rebecca in 2002. She exuded kindness and never passed up an opportunity to help a friend or even a stranger in need. She loved her family deeply.

Debbie is preceeded in death by her Father in Law, William Donald Hornbuckle, mother in law Mary Ann Cambron Hornbuckle, Nephew Matthew Tolbert Miller, Brother in Law William Allen “Bill” Miller and many beloved pets. She is survived by her husband Ronald William Hornbuckle, her daughters Rebecca Grace Hornbuckle Neuman (Dave) and Lauren Elizabeth Hornbuckle Wood (Clay) as well as her sister in law Donna Miller and nephews David Miller (Melissa), Robert Miller, Donald Miller and a host of loving family and friends. Along with her loving family and friends, she leaves behind her loyal K-9 companion, to the very end, Betsey “Boodle” Hornbuckle.

Visitation will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 10am and service following at 11am. On Wednesday, November 8th, 2023, visitation will be held at New Hope Funeral Home in New Hope, AL from 10AM to 11AM followed by Grave Service at Hayden Cemetery in New Hope, AL.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Matt Miller Food Pantry, PO Box 215, Millport, AL 35576 or The American Cancer Society.
