Funeral services for Debbie K. Denney age 67, of Ashland will be held Wednesday October 13, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Dr. Roland Brown Officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Denney passed away Saturday October 9, 2021 at her residence. She was born in Calhoun County was a former resident of Cleburne County but had lived for most of her life in Clay County. Debbie dedicated her life to helping others. She attained her education at Ayers Community College, Southern Union and also the Sylacauga Nursing School become a registered nurse and had served her community in that capacity among other positions for many years until her retirement a few short weeks ago. Whenever she was able Debbie enjoyed truck restoration, crocheting, antiquing, going to yard sales, riding horse and buggy, cooking canning and painting. Most of all her passion was taking care of her patients and family.
Debbie is survived by her husband Robert Denney of Ashland, her step-son Branden Denney (Katie) of Ashland, daughter in law Trinity Nelson of Maryland, two sisters Pat Mosley of Oxford and Hellen Hopkins (Keith) of Randolph County, three grandchildren, Caleb Nelson of Maryland, Briley Denney of Lineville and Alana Maples of Ashland.
She was preceded in death by her children, Thomas Wayne Nelson, Jerry Lynn Nelson, infant twins Ralph and Raymond Nelson, and Jody Ralph Nelson, her mother Frances Murray, step-father Herman Murray, and father in law Arland B. Denney, also her sister Jackie Roberts.
Active pallbearers will be: Brett Strickland, Stephen Young, David Miller, David Brown, Matthew Weathers, Dr. Dewayne Rush, Kenneth Samples, Harold Bailey, David Curtis Griffin, and Daryl McDonald.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Joe Hallman, Albert Baker and Walter Denney along with former and current co-workers of Clay County Hospital.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 12, 2021 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and until service time on Wednesday.
