deanneDeanna Lorraine Fisher Geurkink, 77 of Huntsville passed away peacefully with family on February 21,2015, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Enid, Oklahoma, on December 24, 1937, to Henry and Inez Fisher. She and her husband, Don, moved to Huntsville in June, I960. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and served in various capacities in the music ministry of First Baptist Church, including numerous children’s choirs and other music activities; twenty-seven years as Director of Music Ministries at Faith Presbyterian Church; two years as Music Director at Covenant Presbyterian Church; and one year as pianist at Grace Methodist Church in Monrovia, before retiring. She was also a member of the Huntsville Music Study Club and served two terms as president, The Heritage Bell Ringers and she taught private piano and voice lessons for many years. She is survived by her husband of 58 years: Don Geurkink; her brother: Robert Fisher and Claudia Schwanke of Germany; children: Monty Geurkink, Geri Geurkink Bankston, Christy Geurkink Eldridge and husband Darrell and Tracy Geurkink Delgado, all of Huntsville; brother-in-law: Larry Geurkink and wife Sandra of Enid. Oklahoma; niece: Erin Fisher and fiance Jason Hughes of Boston, Massachusetts and nephews: Jeremy Fisher of China, Mickey Geurkink of Medford, Oklahoma, and Pat Geurkink of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her granddaughter, Amanda Delgado; and her son-in-law, Dan Bankston. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville. A celebration of life will be on Saturday, February 28, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Huntsville with the Reverend Jud Reasons officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the music ministries of Faith Presbyterian Church, Huntsville, or First Baptist Church Governors Drive, Huntsville.
