David Stafford, age 64, of Winchester, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 24, 2026. A lifelong native of Franklin County, he was born on December 12, 1961, in Winchester to the late Bobby Joe and Frieda Joyce (Schwartz) Stafford.
David was a 1980 graduate of Franklin County High School and dedicated forty years of service to the Center Grove Utility Department. He was a faithful member of Decherd Christian Center, where Bro. Larry Bradford had been encouraging him to preach the Gospel.
David found peace in spending time outdoors. Whether he was hunting deer in the fall or caring for his chickens, cows, or his four-legged best friend, Algebra the donkey, he was happiest surrounded by the simple things he loved. On rainy days and cold winter nights, you could often find him watching westerns or enjoying time with family and friends.
Those who knew David will remember him for his wonderful sense of humor, his ability to make others laugh, and the unforgettable nicknames he had for everyone and everything. His personality and laughter will be deeply missed by those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Mildred Stafford and George and Ada Schwartz.
He is survived by his loving sister, Marlene Stafford; as well as many cousins and dear friends.
Visitation for David will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, with Bro. Larry Bradford officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of your choice.
