Dr. David Rush passed away at his home early Tuesday morning, with his wife of 31 years, Candy Goldstein Rush, by his side. In addition to Candy, he is survived by his and Candy’s only child, Noah Luke Rush; as well as two beloved adult children, Ms. Rebecca Rush Giordano of New York, and Dr. Benjamin Rush of California; and loving sister, Mrs. Evelyn Pflugfelder.
Dr. Rush graduated on academic scholarship from Germantown Academy Prep School, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, summa cum laude; Gordon College, Massachusetts, summa cum laude; University of Kentucky on a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, summa cum laude; and Forrest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, Missouri, summa cum laude, where he received his Doctorate of Psychology.
While working in Kentucky, Dr. Rush served as Director of Child and Family Services. He continued to be Director of Child and Family Services when he moved to Huntsville. He later became Clinical Director of The Huntsville Madison County Mental Health Center.
David was awarded the NAMI Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes the individuals who, over the course of their lifetime, have advanced the mission to build better lives for the people living with mental illness and helping their families. Of all his achievements and awards, this was the dearest to his heart.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Encompass Hospice of Huntsville.
Dave’s adoring cats, Angel and Precious, will be sitting Shiva for the next week and luxuriating in their cozy favorite space.
