David Oswalt of Sturgis, MS, passed away at the Golden Triangle Baptist Hospital in Columbus, MS on January 30, 2025. David was born November 30, 1936 to Carroll and Bessie Oswalt of Sturgis, MS.

David had a good life. At the age of 18, he started to work for Western Electric. It was while working at Western Electric, he met his wife, Carolyn. They have been married 57 years. David and Carolyn had two sons, Stacy and Scottie Oswalt.

After working at Western Electric for 30 years, David retired and began his second career. He ran for Oktibbeha County Supervisor and was elected to that position and served the people of Oktibbeha County, District 4 for 20 years. During his time as supervisor, he was elected as President of the Supervisor’s Association for the State of MS. David always said he had only two secular jobs In his life and he loved both of them.

David was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Stacy; his sisters, Evelyn Tubertini, Carolyn Davis and Peggy Bell. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Carolyn’ and his son, Scottie, both of Sturgis. Also cherishing David’s memory, are Trey and Hunter Stevens, Layla and Doc Whitehead, and Lance Winfield. To these sweet ones, he was Paw Paw, Pop or Dad. He loved them all dearly.

Homegoing services for David will be Sunday, February 2 at Wake Forest Baptist Church in Sturgis, MS. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m., with the service to follow immediately after visitation. Interment will be held in the Wake Forest Cemetery.
