David Miller, age 67, of Decatur, AL, passed away on September 2, 2024 after a long, hard-fought battle with covid. Born in Thomasville, GA, David was the cherished son of the late Robert Emory “Bob” and Barbara Ann Miller.
David was a family man, leading and loving his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren to love the Lord and each other. His heart was big enough to welcome each new family member as though they’d always been there, and he had more than enough love to go around. He was generous, selfless, and kind-hearted, often seeking out ways to serve others whether by getting his hands dirty, loaning a vehicle to someone in need, cooking a meal for his family, or providing wise counsel. He always showed up for the people he loved … always. Much like his parents before him, he was a great storyteller and loved to laugh. He was hardworking, a good boss, a man of integrity, and well respected in the community.
He loved the Alabama Crimson Tide (much to his daughters-in-laws’ dismay) and could often be found watching them play whatever sport was currently in season. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and anywhere they were was his favorite place. He was the best Dowa/Grandy, whose lap was often full of his grandchildren. He loved spoiling them with “spending money” for vacations, ice cream and candy, meals out at favorite restaurants, and shopping trips for back-to-school clothes. No story was too trivial nor any moment too insignificant for them to have his full attention. The last weekend before he got sick was spent attending family events and enjoying time with his grandkids.
Above all, though, his love for God is what his family hopes he will be most remembered for. His love for the Lord shone bright in his life. If you don’t know the God that David worshipped and served, his family would love to tell you about Him.
David is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Debbie Felts Miller; sons, Josh (Brooke) Miller and Caleb (Amy) Miller; grandchildren, Emory, Naomi, and Jed; sister, Selina (Alton) Bentley; sister-in-law, Susan (John) Folds; brother-in-law, Carl (Beth) Felts; and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends who were like family.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Westmeade Baptist Church in Decatur, AL, with a graveside service to follow at Midway Memorial Gardens in Moulton, AL. Shelton Funeral Home of Decatur, AL, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes (alabamachild.org) in memory of David.
