David Houston Dotson, 79, of Florence, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014. Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, from 10-11 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother T.A. Duke and Brother Troy Fisher officiating.
Mr. Dotson was a native of LaGrange, retired from Reynolds Metals Company after 30 years of service, and a member of Hook Street Baptist Church. He played baseball for two years for the University of Alabama and was an avid Alabama fan. His greatest accomplishment was being a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Dotson was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd David and Hettie Miller Dotson; sisters, Helen Dotson Tittle and Frances Dotson Blackburn; and brother, James Ray Dotson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jo Ann Dotson; sons, James David Dotson and wife, Paula, and Floyd Bradley Dotson and wife, Kaye; sister, Marjorie Dotson Whaley; and three grandchildren, David Paul Dotson, James Bradley Dotson and Natalie Houston Dotson.
Pallbearers are David Paul Dotson, Bradley Dotson, Roger Palmer and Paul Tittle.
Honorary pallbearers are the Men’s Class of Hook Street Baptist Church.
The family of Mr. Dotson expresses special thanks to the staffs of Mitchell Hollingsworth station three and Amedysis Hospice.
