David Dee Mitchell, better known as Shine, was born January 6, 1942 in Madison County, Alabama to the late Alies Mitchell and Lucille Glover Mitchell.  He departed this life July 15, 2019.  David was a proud alumnus of Council High School. While attending Council High School, he established many special friendships and bonds that lasted throughout his life.  He was preceded in death by his brothers: James Earl Mitchell, Samuel Mitchell, and Jimmy Mitchell and sister Earnestine Duncan.

As the eldest child, David was required to begin working at an early age.  As such, he worked in a variety of professions and trades.  However, his passion was detailing vehicles.  David was so highly skilled in his profession that he earned the nickname “Shine”, as he had a special way of making vehicles shine.  While detailing cars, David worked for several of Huntsville’s largest auto dealerships including: Hill Chevrolet, Bentley Chrysler, Continental Cars, Mercedes-Benz of Huntsville, Woody Anderson Ford, and Huntsville Dodge.  He also worked at Lee’s Magic Tunnel.  There, he met the love of his life, Martha Jones in 1968.  The two remained together until his departure.  After several years in the vehicle detailing business, David ultimately decided to venture out on his own.  He was very successful and continued detailing cars until his health failed.  David was also an avid, accomplished guitar player.  In his earlier years, he performed at several local establishments and was an ecstatic fan of B.B. King.

David leaves to cherish his memories his companion, Martha Jones; two sons: John Raymond, Anthony Baker; four daughters: Emily Rosenkrans (Scott), Alice Jones (Perry), Quinana Howard and Kirtronia Dorsey (Shaun); two sisters: Mary Mayfield and Joetta Horton; one brother, Billy Mitchell (Tee); seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two special friends, Bud Dawin and Steve Foster; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
