David Abbott, 89, died Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Red Bay Hospital. He was born April 2, 1923 in Marion County, Al. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of Old Union Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 8, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Jerry Ginn officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery,  Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 46 years – Virginia Abbott, Red Bay, Al.; one son – Tom Abbott (Susan) Charleston, Ar.; one daughter – Rita Sammons (Pat) Bald Knob, Ar.; three sisters – Ilene Stone (Rayford), Maxine Stone (Fray) and Mert Barnes (Wayne); five grandchildren – Whitney Abbott, Laurel Abbott-Jones, Micah Abbott, Stephanie Dana McEuen and Caitlin Sammons; four great-grandchildren – Elizabeth, Jason, Isabella and Gabby and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Claborn Abbott and Cora Lee Nichols Abbott and several brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Vander White, Leon Green, Tom Abbott, Pat Sammons, Dawson Jones and Micah Abbott.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday, December 7, at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. and until service time on Saturday.
