Darrell Glenn Bailey, 65, passed away on April 24, 2024, while enjoying his favorite pastime of cycling with friends from around north Alabama.

Born in Wurzburg, Germany, Darrell grew up in Liberty, NC. where he graduated from Southeast Guilford High School. He earned his dual degree in math and physics from The University of North Carolina-Greensboro where he met his future wife, Phyllis Crumbley Bailey. After graduating from college, he moved to Huntsville, Alabama to pursue his career at NASA where he faithfully worked for 41 years. Most recently, Darrell served as the lead of the Integrated Avionics Test Facilities for the Space Launch System Program.

Darrell married his college sweetheart shortly after moving to Huntsville and began a family, joyfully welcoming his beloved children Matthew Aaron Bailey and Madison Anne Bailey. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent his leisure time camping, hiking, cycling and being the dog whisperer to Charlie, Blair, and Rudy.

Darrell is preceded in death by his Granny Ella Mae Coble; his mother-in-law, Miriam Crumbley; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Crumbley. He is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 41 years; children, Matthew and Madison; his mother, Rebecca Coble Bailey; his sisters, Glenda Bartshe (Rod), Barbara Wall (Danny), Pam Florence (Bobby), and Lisa Birchett (Steve); his sisters-in-law, Helen Cagle Crumbley (Ken), Karen Simmons (Warren); and other family including several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2024, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Ave. SW, Huntsville, AL 35805. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
