Loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend died in Jasper, AL on November 10, 2025. Born in Wichita, Kansas and raised in Northern California where he lived for 57 years before moving to Alabama.
He was born to Betty Jo (Tracy) Winn and George Houghton Winn, the oldest of five children. Darold graduated from Sonoma Valley High School in 1967 and attended California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo for a year before finishing college at Western Bible College, becoming the first person in his family to earn a degree. He married Linda Kay Duvall in 1970 and the two lived in Salem, Oregon for a year while he finished school. They settled in Sacramento, California where they would live until 2008.
Darold was a dedicated worker, often holding more than one job at a time (even while attending college). In 1971, while working at an auto parts store in south Sacramento, Darold was offered a job by the owner of Herold & Mielenz Electric Motors. He would go on to work for H&M for 37 years, the last 25 as General Manager. Darold dabbled in various hobbies, including electrical controls, model trains, camping and boating. His favorite pastime, though, was talking business, electric motors, and power transmission. Darold and Linda served Sacramento County as foster parents for nearly 35 years.
In 2008, Darold and Linda moved to Jasper, Alabama, where he took a job working at Jasper Electric Motors for the next 15 years before retiring from the industry after 52 years of dedicated service. They were members of Eastside Baptist Church. During his time at Eastside, Darold reestablished his commitment to Jesus and the work of spreading the word of God that was so very important to him in his younger days.
In 2024, Darold was widowed as Linda, his wife of 53 years, passed. This loss had a profound effect on him. He was additionally preceded in death by his mother, Betty, his father, George, and his younger brother, Preston.
Survived by his children, Richard Paul, Matthew Ross (Shelley), Stuart Andrew, Linda Katherine, Nicole Anne, and James Crawford Winn, Kathryn Kaltwang, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, brother Martin, sisters Cheryl and Loretta, and many close friends and colleagues.
Services to be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 at Eastside Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m., visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Jeff Allred will officiate. Darold will be interred next to his late wife, Linda, at Oak Hill Cemetery.
