Graveside services for Mrs. Darlene Thornton Lumpkin, age 53 of Ashland, will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Fellowship Cemetery in Alexander City with Rev. Jimmy Sims officiating.

Mrs. Lumpkin passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at the Clay County Hospital. She was born and raised in Alexander City, and worked as a custodian for the Quality Inn in Alexander City for several years. Mrs. Lumpkin enjoyed being able to stay at home, listen to Country and Classic Rock Music, or go fishing and camping in her spare time. She was a free spirit, and played to the beat of her own drum. She had a good heart, was kind to her friends and family, and was the comedian of the family. She was a loving daughter, sister, and friend.

Mrs. Lumpkin is survived by her mother, Minnie Thornton of Alexander City; one sister, Sharon Moore (Ed) of Jacksonville; four brothers: Leroy Thornton (April), Jimmy Thornton, Timothy Thornton (Kim), and William Thornton (Brianna), all of Alexander City; her caretaker, Ricky Lumpkin of Ashland; her step-daughter, Amber Burney (Billy) of Lineville; her step-son, John Lumpkin (Jessica) of Anniston; four step-grandchildren: Chloe, Carson, Lakelynn, and Sadie Mae; plus a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Wayne Thornton.

Friends and Family will serve as pallbearers.

Her visitation will take place on Friday, January 2, 2025 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland beginning at 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
