She is survived by her daughters Shelley (Kevin) Williams and Samantha (Craig) Thomas; her grandchildren Caleb Williams (Kaitlyn), Emsley Williams, Vera Berlin Thomas, and Conner Thomas; her sisters Diann Evers, Linda Cagle, Jeanette Cagne, and Carol Cagle; nieces and nephews Greg Cavender, Jennifer Dickie, Chris Cagle, John Kermondy, Sherry Grimes, Mandy Townsend, and Ginger Cagle; other special family Lola Poe and Ronald and Teresa Springer, and special friends Terry Nolen, Renee Rodriguez, Ricky Mann, and Stephanie Parrish.
She was preceded in death by her parents Wallace and Ethelene Cagle; her sister Sue Cavender; her brothers Bobby Cagle, Charles Cagle, and Roger Cagle; her niece Lisa Tucker; her nephews Scottie Cagle and Bryan Cagle; and four grandchildren she never met this side of Heaven.
Darlene was a member of Hines Baptist Church for more than forty years. She was known for her selflessness and willingness to help others. She showed her love to those around her through her cooking. She was best known for her fried apple pies (Poe pies) and fried chicken, but most will tell you she never made anything that tasted bad.
Darlene carried many titles through her life- daughter, sister, and mother, but none ever gave her as much pride as the day she became a grandmother. She had been MawMaw to countless children in her church for many years, but when her own grandchildren arrived her life took on new meaning. Darlene devoted her time to following her family from baseball and volleyball games to dance recitals and soccer fields. She never cared where she was as long as her kids were there.
She looked forward to annual Black Friday shopping trips with her girls, and she never passed up a chance to buy a new pair of shoes. Darlene found a way to have a good time no matter where she was, and no one wanted to sit beside her in a serious situation because she would always make you laugh. She left this world after a long medical battle, but she entered Heaven rejoicing. We know today she is praising Jesus with the family and friends she has longed to see for so many years, and there’s no doubt she has already taken time to find a rocking chair to spend time with those four grandchildren she had never met before.
Pallbearers are Doug Frederick, Kenny West, Eric West, Tim Mann, David Nolen, Tim Nolen, JD Potter, and Ronald Springer. Honorary pallbearers are Caleb Williams, Conner Thomas, and Ricky Mann.
