Danny Ray Greer, affectionately known to everyone who knew and loved him as Rod, departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. Fulfilling one of his final wishes, Rod was able to return to the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love of his family and the faithful companionship of his beloved dog, where he peacefully entered his eternal home in Heaven.
A service celebrating Mr. Rod’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Unity Baptist Church, with his pastor, Bro. Ronnie Barefield, and his lifelong friend, Bro. Doc Shelton, officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the church, and will continue on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the service hour. Burial will follow in the Unity Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no graveside service.
Born on August 2, 1946, in Ripley, Mississippi, Rod was the son of the late Johnny and Zora Lee Parham Greer. He attended Pine Grove High School before furthering his education with mechanical courses at Northeast Mississippi Community College. Following his education, he proudly served his country in the United States Army before returning home to begin his career. Throughout his working years, Rod was employed in the furniture industry, working for Stratford Furniture, BenchCraft, and ultimately BarClay before his retirement.
On May 2, 1970, Rod married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Bryant Greer. Together they shared nearly forty-eight wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, and treasured memories until her passing on April 1, 2018.
A devoted Christian and faithful member of Unity Baptist Church, Rod found great joy in the outdoors. In his younger years, he enjoyed tending a garden and spending time on his tractor, while later in life he especially loved deer hunting and fishing with his sons. He had a deep love for animals, particularly his loyal dog, who remained a constant companion through the years.
Above all else, Rod’s greatest joy in life was his family. His sons were his pride, but his precious granddaughter, Alex, was truly the light of his life. She was the apple of his eye, and there was nothing he would not have done for her.
Rod had a gift for making others smile. He loved telling stories, sharing jokes, and could almost always be found wearing a warm smile of his own. His kind heart, gentle spirit, and joyful personality made him someone people naturally loved to be around. The world is certainly better because Rod Greer was part of it.
Although his family will miss him beyond words, they find peace in knowing that when Rod closed his eyes for the final time on this earth, he opened them in the presence of his Savior, reunited with his beloved Shirley Ann and experiencing the eternal joy that awaited him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his two sons, Chris Greer (Linda) and David Greer; his cherished granddaughter, Alex Greer; his brothers, Billy Greer (Barbara) and Lee Earl Greer; his sisters, Sallie English (Larry), Mary Ruth Meeks, and Connie Mauney (Roger); along with numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family members, and many dear friends.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Rod was preceded in death by one brother, J. L. Greer, and one sister, Maggie Hester.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Rex Vincent, Bobby Pasuer, David Diamanté, Larry Meeks, Eric Dyar, Larry English, Jimmy Reeves, and Doc Shelton.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the Tippah County Hospital, North Mississippi Medical Center, and Gentiva Hospice. The love, care, and support shown during Mr. Rod’s final days will never be forgotten.
