Danny Ray Wilkes Mr. Danny “Dan” Ray Wilkes, age 68, passed away in Albertville, AL on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Dan was born July 17, 1956 in Jefferson County, AL. His parents were James Allen “Buddy’ Wilkes and Wanda Lou Burke Wilkes. Dan grew up in Huntsville and eventually moved to Arab, AL. He was an S.R. Butler High School graduate and furthered his education with an Associates Degree in General Education from Calhoun College. He served his military commitment in the US Air Force at McChord Air Force Base in the state of Washington and earned the rank of Sergeant. After he returned to North Alabama he worked several jobs, eventually joining Sanmina/SCI. He was a resident of 8 th Street Community in Huntsville, AL, later relocating to Crossville Health and Rehab in Crossville, AL.

As a US Air Force veteran, Dan had a lifelong interest in aviation and airplanes. This interest led him to discover he had a talent for building model airplanes. Over the years he built and displayed many of his projects, totaling over 300+ airplanes.

Dan is survived by his brother and sister in law, Thomas Wayne “Tom” and Sandra Wilkes; sister and brother in law, Eva Dianne “Missy” and Jonathan Campbell; nephews, Phillip Andrew Wilkes, Stephen Edward Wilkes, Jason Patrick Campbell (Ellen) and Justin Michael Campbell (Emily); niece, Amanda Brooke Wilkes; great nephew, Cole Michael Campbell.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Wanda Wilkes; and his brother, James Ronald “Ronnie” Wilkes.

The family has elected to honor Dan’s wishes for cremation. A graveside memorial service will be announced when the plans are finalized. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
