cindiCynthia Hayes Gifford, age 63 of Sheffield, Al passed away February 18, at her home after privately battling cancer for over 2 years. She passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends which assisted with her care in those final days. Cindi was retired from the State of Alabama where she worked for the Colbert County District Attorney’s office as a child support coordinator for many years. Cindi was actively involved in many local organizations and charities and truly loved to help others, especially animals. She led a very full and active life with hobbies including ballroom dancing, cycling, traveling and babysitting her granddaughter. Cindi was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Hayes; paternal grandparents, Taylor Hayes & Nodie Delones Hayes of Florence as well as maternal grandparents Villard & Clayton Balch of Lexington. Cindi is survived by her mother, Zelma Balch Hayes of Florence, and her daughter, Sasha Gifford and son in law Mike Posey and granddaughters Harper Posey age 5 and newborn twin girls Eleanor and Fiona Posey all of Montgomery. She is also survived by her brother Thomas (Tommy) Hayes and wife Doris of Sheffield. In addition she is survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides of her family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Cindi’s healthcare team including Dr. Andre Taylor and Gentiva Hospice for making her final days as comfortable as possible. A memorial service celebrating Cindi’s life and accomplishments will be held at Spry-Williams funeral home Thursday February 25 at 1:00pm. Those wishing to give memorials may consider donations to the Villard-Clayton Balch endowment through UNA.
