Cybersecurity Initiative to Begin at AAMU

CETPS(New Cybersecurity Concentration and New Online Degree Program)

HUNTSVILLE-Alabama A&M University’s College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Sciences (CETPS) will introduce a series of new activities in its Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science.

The Department has launched a new cybersecurity concentration as part of its popular computer science program, and began it accepting programs in spring 2014.  The new concentration aims to assist enterprises in keeping data safe and secure, while developing within students the critical thinking skills to necessary to meet current and future challenges.

Additionally, the new concentration will rely on collaborations with leading industry partners (e.g., IBM, Boeing, etc.) to providecybersecurity software, lecturers, faculty training material, and a new Advanced Computing and Cybersecurity Laboratory. This lab will be equipped with cutting edge technology in cybersecurity and high performance computing areas.

A&M computer labThe groundbreaking on for the new lab will be held January  2014.  A new accelerated degree program, dubbed 4+1, is expected to be offered in Spring 2014. This program will enable academically qualified students to earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in computer science, significantly faster than can be achieved matriculating through traditional programs.

The computer science graduate degree program, the oldest program in Alabama, will be offered online by fall 2014. The graduate program in computer science developed a full-fledged online master’s program that allows students away from campus or working a full-time job to complete a degree for professional and technological advancement.
