COVID-19 Vaccine Scams
ADPH has received reports of persons identifying themselves as public health nurses and saying they will administer COVID-19 vaccine at residences. At this time, ADPH does not administer COVID-19 vaccines in homes. If you receive unsolicited telephone calls, emails, or visits from persons purporting to be with ADPH and offering to administer COVID-19 vaccines at home, do not allow them to enter your residence or provide personal information such as social security numbers, birthdates, or bank information to these persons. Please notify your local law enforcement authorities about the details of such encounters.
UK Variant in Alabama
The new and more highly transmissible COVID-19 variant, B.1.1.7, has been identified in six Alabama residents. This variant is associated with increased person-to-person transmission of COVID-19. ADPH advises people to continue practicing the usual mitigation measures with emphasis on correct and consistent use of a two- to three-layered face mask of washable, breathable fabric, such as cotton. Other prevention methods include practicing social distancing, and washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Large Scale Mass Vaccination Clinics in 8 Alabama Locations
Beginning the week of February 8, there will be 8 large scale mass vaccination clinics throughout the state. Clinics will be located in Anniston, Birmingham, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Selma, and Tuscaloosa. The goal is for each location to be able to give 1,000 vaccines per day that week, totaling 40,000 doses administered. Some sites require preregistration, and not all sites may have availability. Locations in each city and addition information will be announced tomorrow.
ADPH Encourages People to Avoid Super Bowl Parties
ADPH joins Dr. Anthony Fauci and others in warning people not to host or attend Super Bowl parties with people outside their households. When people follow tradition and gather with friends and family, increases in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths follow. Please stay at home this Sunday to help avoid the spread of coronavirus.
