Cornelia McIntosh Cornelia Belle Ladd McIntosh of Florence, Alabama went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, 11 March 2025, at North Alabama Medical Center, in Florence. She was born on 21 July, 1936, in Ithaca New York. She was the daughter of the late Tallman Ladd, and Margaret Elizabeth Hubbard Ladd of Garden City, New York.

Cornelia attended Cathedral School of Saint Mary, in Garden City NY, then went onto Rollins College, in Winter Park Florida, where she served as secretary of the senior class, was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, of which she served as Social Chairman, and was a member of the Student Council for two years, graduating with a B. S. Degree. She also obtained a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of North Alabama, later on in life.

Cornelia married James H. (Jim) McIntosh Jr. in April of 1959, relocating to Florence Alabama, around that time, as this was Jim’s home of residence, prior to joining the Navy. They met while she was attending Rollins College. James (Jim) was in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Sanford, Florida. They divorced in 1982.

Cornelia enjoyed a long career as a Reading Teacher, serving in many schools in the Florence

City School District, retiring in 2005, she also had volunteered for the Peace Corp during this time, serving two years in Jamaica, as a reading teacher. Cornelia attended St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, in Florence where she was a charter member, as well as a long time member of the Alter Guild.

Cornelia also enjoyed several other civic duties such as volunteering for The Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, teaching Adult Basic Education classes, the Florence Library, and social clubs such as CanoeUs, Book Club and Storytelling just to name a few.

Cornelia was predeceased by her parents, Tallman Ladd and Margaret Elizabeth Hubbard Ladd, of Garden City N.Y., sister Carolyn McBride, of Miami Florida, brother George T. Ladd II (wife Ann), of Staten Island N.Y., a nephew John Edward McDonald III, and a niece Melanie McIntosh, of Florence Alabama.

Cornelia is survived by her sons, Henry Ladd McIntosh (wife Lynn), of Woodstock Georgia, and their children, Meredith, Matthew (wife Sara) and Mark, James Douglas McIntosh (wife Lori) of Lakeland Florida, and Alan Hubbard McIntosh who resides in Florence. She also has 3 great

grandchildren Marlee Jean, Layne Marie and Conor Flynn, children of Matt and Sara. She also has many nephews and nieces.

The lives of Cornelia’s family and friends have all been enriched by her charm, wisdom and guidance. She will be missed more than we can express, but her legacy will always live on.

The family acknowledges Cornelia’s many friends and their contributions to her life. The family also wishes to thank her final caregivers in Florence, Lyman Mitchell Jr. M.D., Edsel Holden II M.D., and the Nursing Staff of North Alabama Medical Center.

Final arrangements will be announced at a later date.
