Ms. Cora Mae Candler Wood, age 92, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 in Parsons. She was born December 19, 1930 in Williamsburg, KY to the late Claud and Hattie Sorrell Candler. She was a retired factory worker and loved going to flea markets, buy and selling, and finding bargains. She also enjoyed gardening and feeding her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Bolen’s Chapel Church.
Survivors include her two sons, Jerry Wood (Jan) and Oscar Wood, Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Gloria Burnine Wood; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Oscar Calvin Wood; two sons, Robert Lee Wood and Van Art Wood; daughter, Joy Wood; grandson, Jason Nowell; four brothers, Ancil, James, Charles, and Albert Candler; and three sisters, Mildred Owens, Louise Bray and Rhoda Hyde.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM, Monday, May 8, 2023, in the chapel of Pafford Funeral Home in Lexington. Interment will follow in Central Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, 2-6 PM and Monday, 12 -2 PM.
