Cora England Lowry, 83, of Cullman, Alabama, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on June 5, 1941, she lived a life defined by kindness, devotion, and unwavering loyalty to those she loved.
One of nine siblings, Cora cherished her family, caring for them and spending time together throughout her life. Their relationships were built on love, grace, and a wonderful dose of good humor and fun.
In 1967, she married Doyle “Gus” Lowry, and for 53 years, they shared a marriage grounded in love, understanding, and deep appreciation for each other.
For 39 years, Cora was a dedicated employee of Greif Brothers Inc., where she was known for her strong work ethic, loyalty, and the lasting friendships she formed with her coworkers.
Cora lived generously and positively. She worshipped and served faithfully and joyfully at First Presbyterian Church. She welcomed everyone with an infectious smile and a gracious heart. Her cooking was legendary. Holiday meals, especially her Thanksgiving feasts and summer BBQs, were cherished traditions. She adored Gus, her children, her grandson Louis, her siblings, visiting with friends, church suppers, shopping trips with Glenda, reading a good book, and watching sports or Westerns on TV.
Even as her health declined in recent years, Cora met each challenge and transition with remarkable cheerfulness and grace, leaving a lasting impact on her family and caregivers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus; her parents, William Howard England and Mabell Kilgo England; and her sisters, Francis England, Sybil Monk, Pamela Brown, Patricia Lee, Sandra Mathis, and Wanda Witcher. She is survived by her sons, John (Katharyn) and Steve; her grandson, Louis; her sister, Glenda James; her brother, Michael England; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A reception and visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 on Saturday, February 8, at Cullman First Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to First Presbyterian Church in her memory.
