Cora Caruthers Gaskins, age 86, of Florence died Saturday, August 16, 2015.
Her family will receive visitors from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Morrison Funeral Home, 825 N. Main Street in Tuscumbia. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Scott Sealy, of First Presbyterian Church, Covington, TN, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Mrs. Gaskins was born in Sheffield. In the 1950’s wrote the Womens Angle column, along with Mrs. H. W. Cheney in the TriCities Daily. Later, she traveled widely with her husband, living in Monterey, CA, Washington, D.C. and Atlanta, GA. During this time, she worked in accounting and finance for various properties development and construction firms. Mrs. Gaskins returned to Florence, Alabama in the 1980’s and owned the Party Place, which featured molded chocolates.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest C. Gaskins and her parents, J.J. and Margia Hughes Caruthers. She is survived by her son, Kenneth H. Gaskins of Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
Pallbearers are Barry Holmes, Terry Lenz, William Lenz, Larry Turberville, David Springer and Trent Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
