Connie Lee Cobb, 80, formerly of Leighton, Alabama, made his transition from earth to his celestial home on Friday, March 11, 2016. He was the oldest of seven children born to Connie D and Annie Lee (Carter) Cobb on March 20, 1935.
Connie was reared in the Bethel community of Colbert County surrounded by nurturing relatives. He received his education in local schools and after graduating from Leighton Training School, he earned a B.S. degree from Alabama A&M University.
Always adventurous and in search of a better life, Connie moved to Denver where he evolved into the premier hairstylist of that city. Creative, talented and with a keen eye for glamour, he styled the hair of the ladies of Denver as well as for the leading local television persons. He had the distinction of being the personal hairstylist for Debbie Drake, international television exercise guru for women in the 1970s. Additionally he taught cosmetology and conducted training sessions at international trade shows/conventions throughout America and Europe. He earned many awards for both his classic and in vogue hairdos.
Connie was baptized and added to the Dahlia Street Church of Christ in Denver. There he served dutifully as a greeter for more than 50 years. Ever faithful, ever fervent and ever financially current, he reached out to others often providing complimentary hairstyles to the less fortunate. His kind, Christian spirit was exemplary.
Connie always cherished his hometown and made frequent trips back to attend family and school reunions. It was on one of his trips to Leighton that he wooed and later married Barbara Mayes of Muscle Shoals. To this union three sons were born. The youngest, Craig, preceded him in death.
Jovial, outgoing, impressive and fun-loving, Connie will be remembered as “only-one-of-a-kind.” His fashionable, impeccable dress was enhanced by his infectious laughter and bright smile.
He is survived by two sons, Roger and Michael Cobb, of Denver, Colorado; six siblings, Margaret Goodloe and Glendale Rollins, of Florence, Alabama, Patricia Turner and Humphrey (Earnestine) Cobb, of Denver, Colorado, Mattie (Willie) Balloon, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Elloaise Cobb, of Leighton, Alabama; a special nephew, Lanza Cobb, of Detroit, Michigan; also a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends will miss him greatly. May his soul rest in peace.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the Dahlia Street Church of Christ. Marshall Mortuary is directing.
