Coleman Lloyd, 83, of Madison, passed away Monday. Born and raised in Louisville, KY, he joined the Navy after graduating high school, then switched services to the Army. He served in Vietnam with the 579th Ord. Co. in 1972 and 1973, and also served in Germany and several US bases before retiring and settling in Huntsville, AL in the 1970’s.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Lloyd; father, Coleman Lloyd, Sr.; mother, Frances Hollingshead; and son, Sean Lloyd.
He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Lloyd (Del) of Orleans, IN and Johnnie Lloyd of Orleans, IN; step sons, Keith Evans (Barbara) of Jonesboro, AK, William Evans of Grand Bay, AL, and Linton Evans of Nashville, TN; step daughter, Monique Johnson (Greg) of Nashville, TN; and several grandchildren; great grandchildren; and neices and nephews.
Following his retirement from the armed forces, he worked at several firms in the Huntsville area before opening his own company, VIA. After retirement, he and Barbara enjoyed travel and spending time with friends and family. He kept in touch with many people he served with, and greatly enjoyed attending reunions with shipmates of the USS Cobbler. He was a longtime volunteer at the U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum in Huntsville, AL. He was an active member of his bowling team SANFUBAR, bowling in several leagues at Plamor, Madison, Stars and Strikes and Redstone bowling centers. Coleman bowled three prefect games in his career, two official and one in practice. He firmly believed he had one more 300-point game in him.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Chapel with full military honors. Inurnment will be at the columbarium in the Nashville National Cemetery on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
