TUSCUMBIA – Coldwater Seed & Supply, a cornerstone of Tuscumbia’s downtown and agricultural community, celebrates over 100 years of dedicated service. Established in 1924, this historic institution has been a beacon of quality, tradition, and
community support since its inception.
Originally founded as Florence Seed & Feed by the Wiggins family, it was quickly purchased by Mr. Hoskins, an employee of Florence Seed & Feed, in 1924. Mr. Hoskins moved the business across the river into the heart of downtown Tuscumbia. With sole ownership, Mr. Hoskins renamed the store to Hoskins Seed Store, laying the foundation for the revered institution it is today.
With a rich tapestry of history, Coldwater Seed & Supply has transitioned through the stewardship of five devoted owners over its century-long journey, including the current proprietors, Kim and Larry Lewis. Larry, a native Tuscumbian and local entrepreneur, fondly recalls visiting the store as a child with his grandfather.
“Purchasing Coldwater Seed & Supply was more than a business decision for me; it was about preserving history and cherished family memories for the Tuscumbia community,” remarked Larry Lewis, the current owner. “This store holds a special place in the hearts of many in Tuscumbia, and it’s an honor to continue its legacy.”
As the oldest seed store in Alabama, Coldwater Seed & Supply is not just a purveyor of seeds. Beyond its extensive selection of seeds, the store boasts one of the largest collections of Case®Knives in the state, along with popular products such as Turner Hats and Minelab Metal Detectors, catering to a diverse range of needs and interests.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, Coldwater Seed & Supply invited the community to join in the festivities, holding a special celebration in Downtown Tuscumbia.
As Coldwater Seed & Supply embarks on its next century of business, it remains committed to upholding its legacy of community and preserving the rich tapestry of Tuscumbia’s heritage.
