Colbert County Sheriff’s Department Issues Update On Death Investigation

TUSCUMBIA-On February 4, 2026, at approximately 9:11 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 600 block of Jones Road in rural Colbert County regarding a possible deceased male inside a residence.

Upon arrival, deputies and EMS confirmed the death of Martin L. Tubbs, 69.  In accordance with department policy, the residence was secured, CID and the Colbert County Coroner were notified and responded, and the District Attorney’s Office was informed.  An autopsy has been requested and is being conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

There is no evidence of any safety risk to the public or surrounding neighbors.  While speculation and rumors have caused concern, this appears to be an isolated situation.  The investigation is ongoing pending autopsy results, and no charged have been filed at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office has taken all necessary steps to mitigate any health or safety hazards at the scene.  Further information will be released as it becomes available.
