COLBERT COUNTY-rt County Tourism is  excited to share our October Happenings with you! Inside, you’ll find a selection of activities that showcase the very best of Colbert County.

September 30 – October 1, 2023 – Opening Weekend at Isbell’s Pumpkin Farm, 2998 Aycock Cemetery Rd., Leighton. The GRAND OPENING for Fall 2023 is a must-attend event happening from September 30th to November 5th. Visitors can explore the festivities every Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm, Sundays from 1 pm to 6 pm, and on Thursdays and Fridays from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Additionally, the venue is open for group reservations from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. This exciting occasion marks the start of the Fall 2023 Season, promising a memorable experience for all who attend. October 2, 2023 – Carden Circus, Longhorn R Indoor Arena, 2576 3 Mile Ln, Tuscumbia. Join us in Tuscumbia on October 2nd for the Carden Circus, a show like no other in 2023! October 3, 2023 – Boo Bash at Fiddledee D!, 111 S Main St, Tuscumbia. Join our friends at Fiddledee D! for a fun fall evening! October 5-8, 2023 – Mule Ride, Rattlesnake Saloon, 1292 Mount Mills Rd, Tuscumbia. Join us at Seven Springs Lodge for Mule Day! Calling all mule enthusiasts—whether you’re a rider or love these magnificent animals, you won’t want to miss this event. Enjoy guided rides and browse through various vendors. October 6, 13, 20, & 27, 2023 – Belle Mont Mansion Quilt Show (Every Friday during October), Belle Mont, 1569 Cook Ln, Tuscumbia. Join Mr. Glenn Rikard every Friday in October at 1:00 PM for an engaging talk on historic and antique quilts. October 8, 15, & 22, 2023 – Historic Sheffield Trolley Tours, departing from Sheffield City Hall, 600 N Montgomery Ave, Sheffield. Explore Sheffield’s rich history this autumn on our Historic Sheffield Trolley Tours. Join us on October 8, 15, or 22 for a captivating two-hour journey through the city’s past with historian Jimmy Austin as your guide. Uncover the fascinating tales of Sheffield’s heritage as you traverse its historic streets. Tickets are priced at $10 and can be purchased at the Sheffield Public Library. October 13-14, 2023 – Cane Creek Canyon Bio Blitz, Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve, 251 Loop Rd, Tuscumbia. Join us for the Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve BioBlitz hosted by the Land Trust of North Alabama in partnership with Discover Life in America (DLiA) and the Tennessee Valley Authority. This citizen science event occurs on Friday, October 13th, from 6 PM to 10:00 PM, and Saturday, October 14th, from 8 AM to 12 PM at Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve. Whether beginners or experts in natural sciences, participants will use the iNaturalist app to document local flora and fauna. Register at landtrustnal.org/event/ccc-bioblitz for one or both days. Dress for the weather, as it’s a rain-or-shine event (except in thunderstorms). Limited cell service is available at the preserve. October 13-15, 2023 – Shakespeare Shakeup: Merchant of Venice, Ritz Theatre, 111 West 3rd St., Sheffield. In this completely reimagined (modernized language) version of Merchant of Venice, Antonio, a Louisiana merchant, takes out a loan from a local moneylender to assist his friend’s courtship…the price for being unable to repay his due? October 14, 2023 – Second Saturdays Tuscumbia, Downtown Tuscumbia. Join us in downtown Tuscumbia for Dogs & Dawgs this Second Saturdays! There will be a dog costume contest and a hot dog eating contest. As always, an incredible Artist Co-Op will feature many local artists and vendors. October 21, 2023 – Village One Volunteer Day with MSNHA, 200 Chickamauga St., Sheffield. Join the Village School Foundation alongside the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area for their upcoming volunteer event on Saturday, October 21st, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This gathering aims to prepare space for their eagerly awaited annual fundraiser, slated for October 28th. Rest assured, they’ve got all the necessary supplies and directions covered, and prior experience is not required. Come dressed comfortably in attire that can handle some dirt, such as jeans and closed-toe shoes. If you have work gloves, don’t hesitate to bring them. October 22, 2023 – Leighton Trolley Tours, departing from Leighton Public Library, 8740 Main St., Leighton. 

Travel the town of Leighton on a trolley as you ride past buildings, parks, and homes of the past, present, and future, with featured stops along the way. Two tour options depart from Leighton Public Library at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. Information: 256-446-538.

October 28, 2023 – American Patchwork Quartet, Ritz Theatre, 111 West 3rd St., Sheffield. Join Grammy-winning artists as they breathe new life into centuries-old American songs. Vocalist/violinist Harini Raghavan, guitarist/vocalist Clay Ross, drummer Clarence Penn, and bassist Nori Naraoka are four U.S. citizens from vastly different cultural backgrounds, united by music and a shared mission to spark conversation around race and immigration. Beyond borders, cultures, and colors, the American Patchwork Quartet compels audiences to reflect on our shared histories and defining differences. October 28, 2023 – Sheffield Ghost Talk/The Village School Foundation’s Annual Fundraiser, Village School, 200 Chickamauga St., Sheffield. Join us for a spooktacular evening at The Village School on Saturday, October 28th, for our annual Halloween-themed fundraiser! The event opens to the public from 4 pm to 6 pm with a feast of food trucks, a lively scarecrow contest, captivating face painting, and thrilling activities for kids in the vibrant kid’s zone, complete with games and inflatables. Don’t miss out on our costume contest, a silent auction, and a chance to explore the eerie world of Sheffield legends. From 6:30 pm to 8 pm, ghostly tales come to life with “Haunted History of the Shoals Sheffield Ghost Talk” by local historian Laura Aldridge.
