Clinton "Cotton" Cheek Clinton “Cotton” Cheek, age 81, of Albertville, Alabama, passed away on June 23, 2025, at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice. He was born on February 3, 1944, to the late Arthur David “A.D.” Cheek, Sr. and Mary Lariee Morrell Cheek.
Cotton was a devoted member of Baltimore Avenue Church of God for over 60 years, where he served faithfully as Sunday School superintendent and sang in the choir. He enjoyed visiting and ministering to the elderly, always eager to share the Word of God and uplift others with his warm and joyful spirit.
He was a passionate baseball umpire for more than 25 years, dedicating countless hours to the game he loved. He could also always be found on the sidelines supporting his son’s coaching career, proudly cheering on the players and staying involved in the local sports community. A lifelong Auburn Tigers fan, he loved watching his team compete in any sport and never missed a chance to say, “War Eagle!”
Cotton also had a love for adventure—whether riding motorcycles, racing cars, or traveling with his family, especially to Disney World. Known as the life of the party, he was a beloved family man whose fun-loving character and positive energy left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Cheek; son, Tracy Cheek (Jill); step-son, Jonathan Lynn (Emily); grandchildren, Peyton Cheek, Sarah-Elizabeth Cheek, Will Lynn (Kelsie), Cathryn Lynn, Natalie Lynn, and Andrew Lynn; sister, Terri Cox; former wife, Martha Sue Cheek; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Arthur David “Sonny” Cheek, Jr., Sarah Nell Cheek Smart, Thurman Delane Cheek, and Brenda Jean Cheek.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Baltimore Avenue Church of God, with Sarah-Elizabeth Cheek, Rev. Morrell Upchurch, and Rev. Tracy Cheek officiating. He will lie in state at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Marshall Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be the Wayne Farms Live Haul Crew. Adams Brown Service Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cheek family.
