chairsFuneral Services for Mr. Clifford “Lumber Man” Chairs Sr., 81 of Decatur will noon Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Reynolds Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Bishop Thomas D. Strong officiating and inhumation to follow in Sterrs Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-7 at the funeral home.  Public Viewing will be Thursday from 2-7 and Friday from 10-7 at the funeral home.

Clifford Chairs Sr., was born June 5, 1933 in Decatur, Alabama to the late Mary Lizzie Kelley Chairs Fultes and Humphrey Chairs, Sr.  He departed this life June 23, 2014 at USA Healthcare in Decatur, Alabama.

He was married to the late Dorothy J. Chairs and to this union six children were born.

He served in the United States Air Force. He retired from Champion Paper Mill after 20 years of service.  He was also a heavy-hitter for the “Decatur Nationals” baseball team.

His survivors include: two sons, Clifford Chairs, Jr. (Barbara) of Decatur, and Donald L. Chairs (Audrey) of Pleasant Grove, AL; four daughters, Wanda J. Scruggs (Robert C. Sr.), Paula Stevenson (Claude G.), Kathy Y. Donald, Brendalene Moore (Dallas) all of Decatur; two brothers, David L. Chairs and Humphrey Chairs both of Decatur; three sisters-in-law, Ella Louise Mitchell of Atlanta, GA, Mary Boglin of Fairfield, AL, and Nellie Jackson of Decatur; one brother-in-law, Henry Carter of South Carolina; (13) grandchildren, (24) great-grandchildren, (5) great great-grandchildren.

 Flower bearers and pallbearers will be grandchildren.
