Funeral Services for Mrs. Cleo Sprayberry, age 90 of Delta, will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Delta Baptist Church at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Ted Embry and Rev. Clay Lovelady officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Sprayberry passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024 at her home. She was born in Cleburne County, but had lived in Clay County since she was 16 years old. She spent her life dedicated to her husband, Vernon and raising her 6 children. Along with her husband, they ran a successful chicken business for over 47 years. Mrs. Cleo was considered a cornerstone and pillar of Delta Baptist Church, serving faithfully as a deacon’s wife, and Sunday school and Bible School teacher. She also served her community, often preparing food for families that had a death in the family, and even gathering local children to bring them to church every Sunday. Mrs. Sprayberry enjoyed cooking, gardening, and making quilts for her family. Mrs. Cleo was described as very funny, and always told you what she thought. She was loving, caring, patient, and hospitable to all, and loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and siblings unconditionally.
Mrs. Sprayberry is survived by three daughters: Debra Robertson (Billy) of Lineville, Sharon Yates of Delta, and Cathy Barkley (John) of Lineville; one son, Ray Sprayberry (DeLois) of Oxford; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dora Mae Jennings of Pell City; one brother, L.V. Yates of Pell City, plus a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Alfred Grissom Paul Yates and Minnie Jane Mattox Yates; her husband, Vernon G. Sprayberry; two sons: Ronnie Mac and Ricky Sprayberry; one grandson, Brandon Camp; one sister, Lilye Gay Noel; and five brothers: Hoyt, Tom, Alford, Milton, and Eddie Lee Yates.
Galen Sprayberry, Will Sprayberry, Wade Sprayberry, Shane Short, Robbie Robertson, Adam Terrell, Aaron Boyd, Alan Boyd, and Logan Camp will serve as active pallbearers. Mrs. Cleo’s great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Her visitation will take place on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Delta Baptist Church from 11:00 A.M. until service time at 1:00 P.M. Flowers are accepted, however, donations would be preferred to be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
