Clayton Gordon Morgan, 102, of Madison, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Clayton was born in 1923 to Bruce and Grace Dodd Morgan. Shortly after his birth they moved from Cookeville, Tennessee to Dayton Tennessee. As a boy, he and his brothers and friends enjoyed roaming the mountains around Dayton and hunting. After graduating high school Clayton attended welding school and upon graduating, got a job in the shipyards of Mobile, Alabama. He later moved to the shipyards of Panama City, Florida. At the outbreak of World War II, he volunteered for the US Navy and spent the war in the Pacific. After the war he attended Tennessee Tech and obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation Clayton worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority and then moved to Huntsville in 1953 to work for the US Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal. He worked the remainder of his Civil Service career working on the HAWK missile program before retiring from Federal service in 1979. Clayton worked for several private engineering firms before retiring for good in 1992.
He married Nannette Hoover of Dayton in 1953. They celebrated their 73rd anniversary in August of 2026.
He is survived by his wife, Nannette; daughter, Patricia of Birmingham, Alabama; son, Robert Morgan (Joanna) of Huntsville; and 3 grandchildren, Daniel Morgan (Mary), Michael, and Jessica Wilson (Isaac). Clayton loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf, as long as, Alabama football was not on TV.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The family will have a private service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southwood Presbyterian Church in Huntsville.
