With much sadness, we announce the passing of Clay Johnston Broussard, 67, on the morning of April 18, 2024.
Clay, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, was preceded in death by his parents, Peter H. Broussard and Ruth T. Broussard.
Clay, born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, was a Huntsville, Alabama resident. He graduated from SR. Butler High School and went on to attend the University of Alabama and University of Alabama Huntsville, where he received both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in English Literature.
Clay was a gifted writer and musician, and a local celebrity with many accomplishments. He was a music columnist and featured writer for the Huntsville Times 1995-2005. Clay was co-host, along with Scott Forrest, of the Live On The Net podcast Movie Grooves, reviewing movies and red carpets interviewing celebrities including Loretta Lynn and Keith Urban. Clay’s success in the music industry began with his band Radio Berlin, which toured regionally and also in Puerto Rico. This iconic band was inducted into the Alabama Local Musician Hall of Fame 2019. Clay is co-writer on songs that have appeared on television shows and movies including tv shows, Rookie Blues, Hawaii 5-0 and movies, Guidance (2014) and Hustlers (2019). Clay was also an English professor at local colleges including, Alabama A&M, Motlow State, and University of Alabama Huntsville.
Clay is survived by his wife, Michele; children, Sophia Yakel (Jacob), Stella Broussard; grandchildren, Charlotte and Jude Yakel; brother, Robert Broussard (Cathie); sister, Sally Dobbs (Chip); brother John Broussard; cousins, nieces, and nephews.
