Claude Thomas Lumpkin Sr. – Obituary

The funeral service for Claude Thomas Lumpkin Sr., age 89 of Delta, will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Rev. Jerry Patterson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Black’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Lumpkin passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston. A native of Delta, he joined the U. S. Air Force and served for 20 years, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. During his military career, he served in Korea and England as well as a number of stateside assignments. In 1971 Mr. Lumpkin returned home to Delta and began working for Amerace for another 20 years. He enjoyed farming and fishing and on the family farm grew just about everything his family would need to live on. Claude loved the outdoors; he loved being outside and doing outside things but above all else was a devoted husband to his wife Rose, lovingly caring for her for many years.

Mr. Lumpkin is survived by one daughter, Karol Lumpkin Waters (Terry) of Lineville; one son, Tommy Lumpkin of Delta; one sister, Mary Brooks of Wellborn; five grandchildren: Michael Waters (Shannon), Mark Waters (Jessica), David Lumpkin (Natalia), Daniel Burton (Angelina) and Sarah Burton Wrightson (Chris) and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Charlie Lumpkin and Dovie Shaw Lumpkin; his wife of 65 years, Rose Lumpkin; two daughters: Enola Lumpkin Burton and Jayne Lumpkin Penland; one daughter-in-law, Lori Lumpkin; two sisters: Verma Gay Lockley and Dorothy Turley and four brothers: Loftus, Winburn, Brince and William Marion Lumpkin.

Michael Waters, Mark Waters, Daniel Burton, Wayne Ford, Rusty Taylor, Joseph Koch, Keith Clarke and Jacob Clarke will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. And until service time Sunday.
