Clarice Nelson Sanderson – Obituary

Clarice Nelson Sanderson, 93 of Sheffield, was born June 5, 1921 in Beaumont Mississippi and passed gracefully on to her lord and savior January 29, 2015.

She was a faithful member of The United Methodist Church throughout her life with special affection for her years at Kittrell Methodist Church near Beaumont in her childhood, and First United Methodist Church of Sheffield in her later years. She spent most of her life in service of others in need. She graduated valedictorian of Beaumont High School at age 16, and was a charter member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society at the University of North Alabama where she received her undergraduate degree.

She was preceded in death by her husband George William Sanderson, and sons George Nelson (Bud) Sanderson, and William Timothy Sanderson.

Daughter Peg Patrick and Joel Mize of Muscle Shoals, grandsons Mark Patrick and wife Laura of Hoover, Shawn Patrick and wife JoHelene of Florence, granddaughter Amy Patrick and Bryan Frazier of Ford City, and nephew Butch Davis and wife Lindsey of Florence survive her. Mrs. Sanderson’s great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. They are: Jackson Caudill, Nicolette Patrick, Veronica Patrick, Xavier Patrick, and Eli Patrick.

Visitation will be at 10am Saturday January 31, 2015 with the service immediately following at 11:30am at The First United Methodist Church Sheffield with Rev. Bill Bedsole and Rev. David Chishom officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery at Old Alabama Hwy 20 and Gnat Pond Road, Muscle Shoals. The family would like to thank Dr. Barry Lumpkins, Amedisys Hospice, and the staff of station 6 at Mitchell Hollingsworth. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made to Faith in Action at FUMC Sheffield, the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
