Clara Tally Hewitt Underwood passed away Monday morning, September 12, 2016, at her home. She was born on September 30, 1925 in Giles County. She was a graduate of Cornersville High School and was very active in Community activities. She volunteered her time with Jones High PTA, Lynnville Horse Show, Lynnville Community Club, American Legion Auxiliary and other events in the community. She was a member of Lynnville United Methodist Church. She retired with the US Postal Service with the Lynnville Office. She married her husband of almost 70 years W.F. (Bill) Underwood on November 1, 1946.
Visitation will be 11:00-1:00 Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Bennett-May-Giles County
Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 1:00 at the funeral home.
Private family burial will be at Lynnwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Lynnwood Cemetery, P O Box 305 Lynnville TN 38472
She was preceded in death by:
Parents, John Payton and Clabe Taylor Wilkes Hewitt. Brothers Wilkes, John, Allen and Clabe Hewitt. Sisters Sarah Dugger, Nannie Pigg, Mary Frances Calahan, Brownie Scoggins.
Her son Jerry Wayne Underwood.
In addition to her husband Bill of nearly 70 years, she is survived by;
Son: Gary (Debbie) Underwood, Lynnville
Daughter: Betty (Dennis) Stanley, Lynnville
Granddaughters: Beth (Jeff) Dault, Rebecca (Brad) Clark, Lynnville
Grandson: Russ (Allison) Underwood
Five Great-Grandsons; Cooper and Colton Dault, Will and Jackson Clark, and Brayden Underwood.
Sister-Laws: Frances Hewitt, Sara Page, Mary Underwood.
Numerous nieces, nephews and special friends Catherine and Kenneth Duke of Lynnville.
