Clara Lou Kirby, born August 22, 1946, went to be with the Lord on August 29, 2026.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 1, 2026 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Rogersville Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Mike Poff officiating. Burial will be in Evans Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen Kirby Sr.; Parents, James Henry White and Sarah Pauline White; Siblings, Lester White, Chester White, Kenneth White and Jamie P. White.
She is survived by her children, James A Kirby Jr (Carol), Paul Kirby, Sandy Springer (Mark); Grandchildren, Chase Kirby, Kaylee Kirby, Isaac Kirby (Heather), Jayleigh Davenport (Eli), Jacob Springer (Maslynn); Great Grandchildren, Blazye Bundy, Ledger Kirby, Kreece Kirby, and Elvie Anna Kirby; Numerous neices and nephews; Siblings, George White (Janie), James A White (Patty), Joyce Verrell, Wesley White (Gail), Morris P White (Kathleen).
Clara held some of the most highly esteemed titles one could have: Christian, servant, loving mother, and very proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also a faithful member of Corum’s Chapel Baptist Church. Her family and church family brought her great joy, and she loved nothing more than spending time with them. She had the heart of a servant and was always asking, “What can I do to help you?”
Clara was a longtime employee of LawLers Barbecue in Athens, where she retired in 2023 at the age of 76. During her time at LawLers, she made many good friends whom she loved dearly and was always happy to serve. She enjoyed taking care of and visiting with everyone who came in. She did her job very well because, to her, it was more than just a job—it was an act of service. In 2017, she received the Northern Star Award, presented by the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association. The award recognizes individuals who go above and beyond expectations to enhance the visitor experience in North Alabama.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all those who so lovingly cared for Clara, including all of the caregivers at Brentwood Retirement Community in Muscle Shoals, Preferred Hospice Care, and everyone who attended to her, visited with her, and, most importantly, showed her love and compassion.
