Canton, formerly of Tupelo – Clara Fay Green Smith was born September 4, 1922, in the Carolina Community of Itawamba County, Mississippi. Her parents were H. C. and Mary Agnes Green. She died March 1, 2019 at the Madison County Nursing Home.

She graduated from Tupelo High School and immediately went to work. She met her husband while she was working at the co-op after WWII. She and Allen were married until his death in 2007.

Fay loved shopping for, in no particular order, clothes, plants and antiques. She started collecting antiques in the 1950’s and went to auctions for as long as anyone would take her. She also enjoyed “stealing” plants and had super-natural powers for propagating them.

Her daughter-in-law, Mary Hinton Smith, and her sisters, Frances Williams and Mary Gordon Keegan pre-deceased her. She is survived by her children, Kay Jerome and her husband, Pat of Madison County, and Green Smith of Plantersville, and her brother, Hollis Green of Tupelo. She has three grandchildren, Allen Jerome (Leslie), Patrick Jerome (Randi) and Mallory Smith Hamby (Steven), and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Plantersville City Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to her church, First United Methodist Church of Tupelo, 412 W Main St, Tupelo, MS 38804.
