FLORENCE-The City of Florence is proud to announce the addition of two GEM e6 electric vehicles to its transportation fleet. These vehicles will enhance mobility at key public spaces such as the Florence Sportsplex, River Heritage Trail, and other city functions.

These six-passenger, fully electric vehicles were purchased through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program and represent a significant step toward sustainable city operations. The total investment for the two vehicles was $76,520 ($38,260 each).

“I commend our Chief Financial Officer, Shana Balch, for her dedication to securing the funding for these electric vehicles,” said Mayor Andy Betterton. “Her efforts in obtaining this grant through the U.S. Department of Energy allow us to make a meaningful investment in sustainable transportation while improving accessibility at city facilities.”

These new electric vehicles will make a huge difference in how we serve visitors at the Sportsplex,” said Randy Burns, Florence Athletic Director. “They allow us to transport guests, staff, and equipment efficiently.”

The City of Florence remains committed to implementing environmentally friendly initiatives while improving services for residents and visitors. For more information on the GEM e6 electric vehicles, visit GEM e6.
