HEALTHFLORENCE – On Tuesday the City Council’s Finance Committee voted for an increase in health insurance premiums, this being brought about by the the rising costs from the Affordable Care Act.

The City has opted to pay 75 percent of the costs, leaving employees with the remaining 25 percent. Meaning employees with individual policies will pay $140 a month rather than $100, and those with family coverage will pay $280 whereas before they paid $200.

These adjustments were deemed necessary due to the high amount of claims paid in 2013.

Insurance costs nationwide increased last year at the lowest rate in 50 years. To blame this increase on the AHCA(Obamacare) is just false. Beating up employees and blaming it on Healthcare is wearing thin. Adjusting for unexpected cost has nothing to do with AHCA
